2018 Jeju Museum of Modern Art Healing Art Festival Exhibition

2018 Jeju Museum of Modern Art Healing Art Festival Exhibition

Exhibition “Island’s Song” encapsulates the symbiotic aesthetics cherished by the people of Jeju Island, who hold a profound regard for the interconnection between nature and humanity, through the medium of spatial installation art. The intention is to eloquently convey a fragment of life’s wisdom inspired by the natural beauty of the verdant island of Jeju in a more empathetic and contemporary manner. The exhibition comprises five themed rooms, namely ‘Mother Sea,’ ‘Stone Island Dwelling,’ ‘Play of Colors,’ ‘Children’s Playground,’ and ‘Breath of Life.’ Each theme seamlessly integrates analog materials with digital technology, creating a distinctive ambiance. For instance, the central element of ‘Mother Sea,’ the ‘mirror,’ transcends its original role of reflecting existence and serves as a conduit to transmit the wisdom of ancient Islanders beyond its innate reflective purpose. The ‘digital images’ construct a virtual space that reflects the artist’s worldview, facilitating smoother communication. One noteworthy feature of this exhibition is the pivotal role played by the ‘viewer.’ The energy of each visitor becomes an interactive component of the ‘installation,’ permeating the space with even the slightest sound or gesture, ultimately contributing to the completion of the artwork.
